On Halo: Combat Evolved you take fall damage unlike in the later Halo games. You don’t just take fall damage either… You hit the floor and stay in the same position for a short amount of time, which isn’t good because you become a sitting duck for other players to shoot at.
It’s possible for you to lose health or even die if you fall from too high up. If you fall from extreme heights you will inevitably die, but if it’s just a mid-range fall, death can be avoided. Even though you might not use this trick that often, its good to have it in your arsenal. All you need to pull this off is good timing.
If you fall from a ledge that would normally hurt you, try crouching right before your feet make contact with the ground to avoid fall damage. Crouching too early can make you take more damage than normal so try to crouch as late as you can (but obviously not too late).
When timed correctly, you will take significantly less damage than you would if you were to just land normally. Another good thing about this trick is that you don’t stay in the same position for a prolonged amount of time when you land.
